''Angel Moms" Tawana Spann, Tracy Washington, and Angela Anderson

Remembering Our Sons: The Stories of Angela Anderson, Tawana Spann, and Tracy Washington

In the heart of Palmetto and Sarasota, Florida, three mothers share a bond forged in the crucible of unimaginable loss. Angela Anderson, Tawana Spann, and Tracy Washington have each faced the devastating reality of losing their sons to violence. Their stories are a testament to the enduring strength of a mother’s love and the urgent need for change in our communities.

Angela Anderson and Deondrick “Vert” Anderson

Angela Anderson’s world was shattered when her son, Deondrick “Vert” Anderson, was tragically taken from her. Deondrick, known for his vibrant personality and love for life, was involved in an altercation that ended in gun violence. The loss of Deondrick has left a void in Angela’s life that can never be filled. Yet, she continues to honor his memory by advocating for peace and supporting other families affected by similar tragedies.

Tawana Spann and Jabez Spann

Tawana Spann’s son, Jabez Spann, was only 14 years old when he disappeared in 2017.  Jabez was a bright and promising young man, deeply loved by his family and community. His remains were discovered nearly two years later, leaving Tawana and her family in a state of profound grief. Despite the pain, Tawana has channeled her sorrow into action, founding the Jabez Spann Foundation to support other families who have lost loved ones to violence.

Tracy Washington and Breonte’ Johnson-Davis

Tracy Washington’s son, Breonte’ Johnson-Davis, died after being tased by police officers during a mental health crisis. Breonte’ was a father and a valued member of his community, known for his kindness and generosity. Tracy has become a vocal advocate for mental health awareness and the need for trained professionals to respond to mental health emergencies. Her efforts aim to prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak.

A Call for Change

The stories of Angela, Tawana, and Tracy highlight the urgent need for systemic change. Whether through gun violence, unresolved disappearances, or inadequate responses to mental health crises, these mothers have faced the harshest realities of our society. Their resilience and advocacy serve as a powerful reminder that we must work together to create safer, more compassionate communities.

Honoring Their Legacy

As we remember Deondrick, Jabez, and Breonte’, let us also honor the strength of their mothers. Angela, Tawana, and Tracy continue to fight for justice and support others, turning their grief into a force for good. Their stories inspire us to take action, to listen, and to support those who have suffered unimaginable loss.

In their memory, let us strive to build a world where every child can grow up safe, loved, and free from violence.

It was lovely meeting the "Angel Moms"
